Dubai, Unknown, November 10, 2025 — Dubai Municipality has unveiled a pioneering AI-powered smart waste management system in Al Barsha, aiming to reduce landfill use by 40% before the end of 2026. The initiative, launched on 10 November 2025, is part of Dubai’s broader strategy to close all landfills by 2027 and transition to a circular, sustainable waste economy.
The new system integrates advanced robotics and artificial intelligence to sort and process waste directly within high-rise buildings, significantly boosting recycling rates and minimising contamination. Residents are encouraged to participate through a personalised incentive platform, rewarding sustainable behaviour and fostering community engagement.
Developed in collaboration with the American University in the Emirates, Khalifa University, and Cycled Technologies Middle East, the project is supported by Dubai Holding and local real estate partners. Officials highlight that the system’s real-time data analytics will optimise collection routes and resource allocation, setting a new standard for urban sustainability in the region.
